An astrological consultation is a conversation between the person asking the question, and an astrologer, who spent a few days working on horoscopes and tables in search of the optimum utilization of the solution.

The following is an example of a typical consultation showcasing the use of both Western and Eastern astrology techniques. Let us look at a fragment of a consultation, which was recorded with the permission of the client on September 22, 2002. Nick is a pseudonym of my client.

Alex: Good Morning!

Nick: Good Morning!

A: Thank you for being on time!

N: Not a problem!

A: We have a little bit of a concern as I explained to you [during the appointment call] about your birth time. You told me, that you've got your time of birth (TOB) from your mother’s notes, not from your birth certificate.

N: That is correct. In my country birth certificates do not have the time of birth, but my mom recorded the time when I was born.

A: I have built your horoscope using this TOB. We need to verify that the horoscope is correct. I have to ask: What happened with your father when you were about 7.5 years old?

N: My father died from a heart attack in February of 1977, but how do you know?

A: I am so sorry to hear that you lost your dad at this age. Both Indian/Hindu and Western horoscopes indicate this sad event. I can explain it in details.

Picture 1. Natal chart in the South Indian format.

In the Hindu horoscope, (Picture 1) the planet of death and obstacles Saturn is placed in in 15°01’ of Aries in the 9th house, which in Hindu astrology signifies the father.

According to Indian astrology, the 360° zodiac is broken into 27 constellations of lunar mansions or nakshatras, each measuring thirteen degrees and twenty minutes.

Each nakshatra has a special meaning. This degree of 15°01’ of Aries belongs to the nakshatra Bharani (13°20’ Aries - 26°40’ Aries), ruled by Yama, the god of death. It indicates that an event potentially led to someone’s death. The death of the father is also indicated by the Saturn located in the 9th house which characterizes the father in Southern India.

This is just a start so we need at least one more indicator of this event to verify this idea. We will now use the Western astrology technique.

Picture 2. Western astrology format of horoscope.

In the Western astrology horoscope (Picture 2) the ruler of the 8th house of death Mars is placed in 25°42’ of Sagittarius in the 4th house (home and family). We do not need a computer to calculate that it is only 7 degrees and 16 minutes from his MC-IC parental axes on 18°26’ (the central vertical axes in the chart).

The 7°16’ corresponds approximately to the 7 years and 4 months of his life. The astrological search for his horoscope (Picture 3) shows that for the period between August 1976 and August of 1977 the IC and Mars conjunction happened on 2/21/1977 when he was 7 years and 5 months old. In addition, the ruler of his 4th house is the Saturn retrograde which is placed in the 8 h house of death.

A: One of the questions you asked was when your marriage will take place. You told me that you do not have a girlfriend. Let us first discuss reasons to be single at the age of 33.

N: It would be interesting to know.

A: Your horoscope suggests that your profession is linked with communication such as writing stories.

Mercury is placed in its own sign Virgo in the 2nd house (Picture 1). This combination is called a Mahapurusha yoga and the planet involved in the Mahapurusha yoga brings its qualities to the foreground, dominates the horoscope and becomes first-class determinant of profession. His Mercury, the planet of speech and communication, is placed in nakshatra Hasta at 21°08’ of Virgo, which generally means that the person is a good writer or an articulate speaker. This man’s life is decidedly Mercurial with communication being one of his fortes.

N: It is true. I am working as a sport commentator on the radio.

A: You are not shy and you have an excellent voice and communications skills. Your horoscope suggests that you are looking for a woman as a source for maternal nurturing. In addition, you always hide your emotions and it is difficult for you express love and affection.

The most fundamental human urge is the desire to give and receive love. The horoscope shows the main patterns of the person’s relationship psychology. Venus represents love, pleasure, and sex. It is one of several indicators of marriage and relationships. If Venus is strong and well placed, a person can easily attract a loving and beautiful partner, but if Venus is weak and poorly placed, a person may have problems attracting or keeping a loving relationship. Nick’s Venus (Picture 1) is placed in the sign of Cancer ♋, which is not an ideal placement for this planet. For men, this suggests that they might look to their wives for maternal nurturing. The afflicted Venus placed in the 12th house suggests that this person might have difficulty finding a life partner or spouse. He may have emotional self-esteem issues and it could be difficult to express love and affection.

The ruler of his seventh house Saturn indicates that marriage may happen later in life (Nick is already 33) and Saturn is not strong in his Aries sign, which may suggest difficulty in getting into a relationship or marriage.

N: Do you mean I have to find a wife who will take care of me like my mother did?

A: Actually, I mean the opposite. The horoscope shows tendencies and that is why you look for these types of women, but the majority of women look for comfort, support and care from men. If you show your loved ones your affection, emotions, and care, she will stay with you. You can do it because your horoscope shows your charisma and outgoing personality.

Sun in the sign of Leo (Picture 1) in the first house shows charisma and outgoing personality.

N: Why do you think I do not give enough attention to my girlfriends?

A: Your horoscope suggests that marriage is possible, but you want to be very independent.

Rahu in his 7th house means he wants get married but also wants to be happily separate and independent.

N: That is also correct. I have hobbies that take up a lot of my spare time.

I am a fisherman and I fish during all my free time and vacations. I still do not understand. Will my marriage take place or not?

A: It definitely will, but you should keep in mind these recommendations.

N: If my horoscope shows that marriage will happen, why should I change myself? In addition, can you tell when my marriage will happen?

A: An astrologer can forecast only the trends that indicate the formation of a long lasting romantic period. Marriage is a process and we have to find its beginning. Right now, you have a great chance to meet you future loved one. You are already in a great period for marriage and having children. You can be more active and use this chance, or you may lose this possibility. This period started 9/29/1993 and will last until 9/29/2009. Inside this 16 years period the best sub-period to meet your loved one is from 8/11/2001 until 4/11/2004. More precisely, in the Spring of 2003 there is a big oppoturnity to start a very serious relationship and you will keep this relationship if you will express more care and support for this person.

According to Hindu scriptures, man’s ultimate lifespan is 120 years. These 120 years are divided into 9 planetary periods of unequal duration from 6 to 20 years and each period is affected by, or corresponds to the attributes and significatons of particular planet. These periods are called dasas. The first dasa of a person’s life is based upon the zodiac sign and degree position of the Moon in the horoscope.

Picture 4. Major dasa periods.

For example, this person was born on 14 September of 1969 in a Mars dasa period. This period was started 9/29/1968 (Picture 4). However, he called me on 9/22/2002 when he was already inside the Jupiter dasa period which started on 9/29/1993. Jupiter is the planet of truth and abundence. The Jupiter, if not afflicted, blesses anything it touches in the horoscope. Some of Jupiter significatons are luck, fortune, opportunity and children. Nick was already in a very lucky period for marriage and children but the Jupiter dasa is 16 years long and he needs a more precise prediction when he will meet his best partner.

Dasas show the overall picture of human life and they are broken down into small periods bhuktis with more detailed information about shorter intervals within the dasas.

Picture 5. Bhuktis subperiods of the Jupiter dasa for this client.

In Picture 5, we see that his Jupiter dasa period is divided into 9 smaller periods, bhuktis, and at the time of our consultation 9/22/2002, it was the Venus bhukti period, which started on 8/11/2001. Venus takes care of marriage, love matters, sexual desires and romance. This bhukti period lasts almost 3 years until 4/11/2004.

I suggested that the best time to meet his future loved one is between 9/22/2002 and 4/11/2004, but for a better prediction, we have to check Nick’s Western horoscope.

In the Western horoscope (Picture 6) there is an indicator that around April 23rd of 2003 something very important may happen in his personal life: the Solar Arc Venus love) conjuncts his Ascendant (individuality). Transiting Jupiter in Leo (seek all that is bold and beautiful) has a square aspect (needs effort to achieve a goal) with his very pragmatic natal Saturn in Taurus. Saturn rules the 5th house of love.

Picture 6. Search for the best time for dating.

N: Ok, I got it. If I will be more socially active in sense of meeting new people and friends, I have a good chance to meet my future wife in spring of 2003.

A: Very good chance.

N: Does it mean I will get married this time?

A: Your marriage will probably take place between January and May of 2005.

Jupiter and Saturn aspect the 7th house from Moon between 1/28/2005 until 5/26/2005 (Picture 7). This is a classical combination of rules for prediction of the marriage. It is a culmination of a long romantic process of building serious relationships. As the old rule says “Jupiter Gives the Hope and Saturn Makes It Happen!”

Picture 7. Transit planets on Nick’s wedding day.

Nick called me back in April of 2003 and informed that he had been dating a great girl since January 2003 and he is in love and he is trying to be very careful. The second time Nick informed me in 2005 that his wedding took place on Friday 1/28/2005.

His bhukti ruler Moon gave an aspect to his 7th house of marriage exactly on Friday 1/28/2005 - on his wedding day.
